The atmosphere is unpretentious yet attentive, marked by a steady rhythm that encourages lingering over plates that feel like the kind of home-cooked fare you might hope to find on a visit to a dear friend rather than a city spot. There’s a softness here, almost a slow dance between tradition and thoughtful culinary twists, evident in offerings that range from rich, slow-roasted pork belly to delicately seasoned seafood and inventive vegetarian options. Each plate arrives with a quiet confidence, inviting exploration without overwhelming.

What stands out most about Chris and Jo’s Kitchen is its ability to feel both familiar and gently surprising. The menu draws from British classics but with a finesse that makes dishes feel personal rather than routine—comfort presented with a considered touch, seasons and ingredients carefully respected. There’s a humble generosity to everything, from the generous crackling that crowns a Sunday roast to the subtle layers in a seafood chowder or risotto, anchoring the meal in a sense of place and care.

Service here echoes the food’s sensibility: professional but never distant, warm without being overstated. It’s a welcoming kind of attentiveness that allows guests to feel seen without feeling rushed. The owners’ evident devotion to their kitchen translates into a quietly cultivated atmosphere that many might call a hidden gem—an affirming place for those who seek something beyond the ordinary in both food and company.

Whether you’re drawn by the lure of a classic roast perfected or the chance to discover lighter, thoughtfully composed plates amidst friendly, familiar surroundings, Chris and Jo’s Kitchen offers a steady sanctuary of flavour and warmth. It’s a place that invites you to slow down, savor the moment, and return again.

We had a Sunday roast here and the food was fantastic. We both went for the pork and it was succulent with generous amounts of crackling. Everything on the plate was seasoned perfectly, and the rice pudding dessert was the best I've ever had. It seems like a lot of thought and love goes into their food, like with the best home cooked meals.

What a gem! This small, unassuming restaurant has a fantastic menu and service was wonderful and personal. I had the leek and potato rosti and it was divine. Everyone at my table loved their food and I will definitely be back again. Thanks so much for a lovely evening.

One of Bristol’s hidden gems. How this place is not busier on a Saturday night I don’t know. Firstly the service is excellent, professional and attentive. To not demand/ expect a service charge for this level of hospitality is extremely impressive and puts the 12.5% in other, more expensive restaurants to shame. The menu is thoughtful and inventive and perfectly executed. For the price I was delighted at the generous portion of bread and butter which Jo packaged up for us. Desserts: 10/10 and something usually neglected in restaurants that produce the level of savory dishes that Chris and Jo’s does with style and ease. I LOVED it, will recommend it to everyone and definitely be back myself.

The food here was very very good. The fresh gnocci was incredible. The service was a little strange... From the moment I called to book a table, it was almost like our booking wasn't wanted (because I was requesting a table quite close to their closing time). When we were in there another party came in after us. Looking at the owners face, they were clearly not welcome I understand when it's nearing closing time, you just want to finish your working day and be done. But this can be tricky when your work is in hospitality!

The six of us had a wonderful dinner here. We had three starters - fish stew, risotto and mussels - were all superb! The two fish mains - the trout and cod- were tantalising. Pork belly was delicious and the chicken tender. A good place for dinner, especially if you crave a traditional English meal.

Visited for Sunday lunch. Been on my radar for a while and it did not disappoint. The cauli cheese was heavenly, very generous meat portion

One of the best pork belly sandwiches I’ve ever had—and I’ve had quite a few. I came here for lunch and, although the food took a little while to prepare, it was absolutely worth the wait. The pork belly was perfectly cooked: crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside, with just the right balance of richness and seasoning. I also had a dessert, which was simply excellent—sweet, but not overly so, and very satisfying. I’ll definitely be coming back to try more dishes from the menu.

It's hard not to love this place. It's very charming, the menu changes on a daily basis, the quality of the cooking is good, it has interesting dishes on the menu including lots of options for those who are vegetarians and the prices are very reasonable. We enjoyed our lunch although not everything was absolutely perfect. The star dish was the chicken thighs with gnocchi, it was tasty and well balanced. The mussels were excellent, high quality ingredient which was perfectly cooked and well seasoned but needed something else to go with it, like chips or a good sourdough that can soak up the lovely sauce. The trout was lovely but came on a bed of salad that wasn't as good as the fish. There were no side dishes on the menu which was a shame. We will definitely return to try again on another day and a different menu. The locals love this place and I can understand why.
